In the Fall 2016 issue of Changing Business, Johns Hopkins Carey Business School’s research journal, illustration takes a lighter tone – monkeys depict organizational misconduct and how it can benefit an organization by causing ‘non-deviants’ to work harder. Additional topics include cutting the costs of chronic illness, commitment issues from social media users, and making something from almost nothing. Illustrations in this issue are by Ryan Todd.
The cover of the fall 2016 issue of McDaniel College’s McLive! features a painting by McDaniel Art professor Steve Pearson.
We are excited to announce that studio principal Kevin Sprouls will be collaborating with Millstone Cellars to show his recent typographic prints. Please join us on September 18th at 3pm to toast the work at this unique farmhouse cidery.

We submitted four of our favorite projects from 2015 in this year’s UCDA (University & College Designers Association) competition. All four entries have been given Awards of Excellence and will be included in this year’s exhibition. The show will be on display at the UCDA Design Conference, Sept. 24-27 in San Antonio.
Congratulations to St. John’s College, York College of Pennsylvania, Lancaster Country Day School, and Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.

Compressing Big Ideas into Little Boxes
When we designed McDaniel College’s website a few years ago, our mandate was first to attract prospective students, while still allowing space for campus news, alumni updates, internship stories, graduate programs and more. We devised a visual and verbal quilt with multiple entry points to communicate an active, multifaceted campus, and to allow constant updating – all within an organized visual hierarchy.
Events are a key part of an institution’s ongoing engagement with the public and private sectors. Some events are small in scope while others mark major milestones. Documentation is always part of the process, photography and/or videography playing the largest roles. A majority of events are re-lived on the web or in member’s magazines, depending on the importance and/or size of the event and the capabilities of the institution’s communications office. For large milestone events, a professionally designed book is the ideal platform to elevate the event, and for use as a gift to important supporters and friends.
