We recently completed our redesign of The Bryn Mawr School’s alumnae magazine, Communiqué. Because the magazine is published annually, we designed the cover to feel more like a keepsake than a traditional alumnae magazine. Printed on heavy uncoated paper and die-cut, the cover serves as a window to a full-page photo of Gym Drill, one of Bryn Mawr’s most quintessential traditions.
The Bryn Mawr School is a private all-girls kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school with a coed preschool for ages 2 months through 5 years. On a beautiful 26-acre campus in Baltimore, Bryn Mawr’s inquisitive girls, excellent teaching, and strong student-teacher relationships sustain a vibrant school community where girls always come first. The cheerful vibrancy of the magazine’s design reflects the school’s personality and brand.
Interior spreads have been reworked to improve the overall structure and hierarchy, and a circle motif is carried through from the cover. With the introduction of display typography and large portraits, features on Bryn Mawr alumnae now have more prominence and are clearly distinguishable from the short profiles of top faculty.
Double-page photos serve as dividers between sections and page headers have been added throughout to aid navigation. Bryn Mawr School’s color palette – green, blue, and yellow – is used throughout the magazine to highlight graphic elements and call-outs.
